[Commission Work] A couple of Cowboys (or girls)

Time for another update and something a little different.

Here are three Wyrd Miniatures Ronin , for Malifaux. These were good fun to paint and wen surprisingly quickly. Looking at about 4-5 hours here from start to finish.

I think these are the first Malifaux models I have painted, I still find the metal they are made from a pain to work with (that Katana is really flexible). Maybe now the plastics are trickling out then I will get to work on some of the newer models and see if that makes things better.

These are my basic level of paint (£10 per figure), but for that you get a clean, three level highlight. Nothing too fancy, but great for rank and file.

Other projects on the go at present are some Dreadball teams for commission and some new Cryx stuff for me.

I have also decided to get in to two new games... Infinity has caught my eye for its low model count and sci fi stylings, and I am hoping to get some Aleph underway pretty soon, if I can find them anywhere in the shops.

I have also just picked up the Dark Age core rules. I've had my eye on the game for a while now, and the new Kukulkani has tipped me over the edge. Can't wait for the models to come out so I can get cracking.

With Relic Knights coming later in the year, its going to be a skirmish lead few months.

'Til next time.

[Commission] New Piece

Its been far too long again, but I am back again with some new work.

Here is a piece that I have recently painted for commission. A higher level than my standard as its a character, though still not top end.

Its been an exciting few months, managed to get out to GenCon again and was thrilled to pick up three bronzes and a silver in the P3 painting competition, as well as winning the speed painting events for both Privateer Press and Wyrd Minis. Not a bad trip out all told.

Will post some pics of the Gencon stuff later.

Painting prizes, work and other stuff.

Well, its been a while since I've posted here.

Work has been pretty manic and its keeping me away from my painting desk.

Still, I've been to two recent tourneys (London Hardcore and Fun Quick and Dirty) and picked up best painted army in both of them.

I managed to complete a commission for a friend, he wanted high level paint and was happy to pay for it. Total cost was £30 for this:

I've been speaking to some other painters and I think its time to revise my pricing structure.

As such, I will be charging the following for my work:

Single 28mm scale infantry. Tabletop standard (like the rangers below): £10 per model
Large 28mm scale model. Tabletop standard. Cav and ogre sized creatures: £15-20 depending
Single characters. Display quality. (Constance, Gobber Reinholtd: £30
Monsters/war engines etc: £POA

This is still a fair price for the time and effort that goes into my work. It includes the price of assembly.

I do have some open slots on my work bench currently, so please do get in touch if you are interested in sending some work my way.

Cheers.
Jon.

Commission: Necron Pariahs and Tomb Spyder

My latest work was to paint two units for 40K. Its been a while since I painted any GW models, but having painted a Necron army in the past (sold to the guy who ordered these), so I was not too worried.

The Pariahs have been painted with an off white to show their elite nature and I added some unique rune markings across the shoulder pads to denote their rank. Note the blue rods also, just to add a different touch to the army.

The Spyder has again got a little bit of runic patterning and a lot of battle damage and wear. I guess the years of guarding tombs have not been kind to him.

Till next time.

Quick paintjob for Salute 2011.

Tuesday night I get a phonecall from my podcasting buddy Conrad asking me if I am free to paint a model for Salute, which was in four days time! Not one to shirk from a challenge I decided to partake.

We had three new releases to paint, a Cryx Scavenger, the Ragman mercenary solo and a Menoth Flameguard Cleanser. I got the Ragman (Nick was also joining in the fun and is a good painter of white, Cryx is my chosen faction so I didn't want to spoil the fun of painting a scavenger for myself).

With such a short deadline (bearing in mind I have a job and was taking my partner out for the day for her birthday) I had a very small window of paint opportunity.

Three hours of frenzied painting later, this was the result:

Not the best work ever, but I had so little time I felt I did a reasonable job.

Hopefully I will be getting my own Ragman soon enough, so will get a second shot at the model.

Till next time...
